With walls of terracotta and vibes a plenty, Bowden’s newest resident is promising to bring a refreshing take on a cult classic cuisine.
From the makers of famed Moon Bear Dumpling Co. comes a new Asian-fusion eatery, Bobibao.
Bobibao is an ode to all the things that owners Joseph and Emma Del Bono love, authentic food with a modern twist, a great and welcoming atmosphere as well as kind faces to greet you at the door.
Bobi meaning ‘blessing’ in Taiwanese, and ‘bao’ symbolising inclusion and togetherness, those sentiments paints a picture of the eatery’s appeal.
“It’s a blessing to be together and sharing this moment makes it a beautiful part of the food experience” is Bobibao’s mantra after-all.
The Del Bono’s have continuously added to the Asian restaurant canon by exploring different flavour combinations that you may or may not be familiar with.
At Bobibao, you will find the ‘Tarocotta’ which features house-made soy panna cotta, toasted grains, fruit, peanut mousse, molasses syrup, creamed taro and blueberry soy milk. Or if you’re feeling a little more indulgent, you can order (our personal favourite), the ‘Chicken Waffle’ featuring crispy fried chicken, filled with mashed potato, crispy pancetta, poached egg and a citrus maple glaze.
The menu is equipped with experimental flavours, but still yields the same delicious result.
The decor of the space is equally as delicious, with terracotta walls, warm lighting and teak rattan furnishings. The cosy colour scheme also paints the perfect picture of a perfect autumnal day.
“A little inspiration behind the terracotta colour is from my grandparent’s old brick house in Taiwan,” Emma said.
Bobibao’s creation has taken a village and you can tell that Joe and Emma are so grateful for the team that made this idea into a reality.
“It’s been such a great collaboration with a huge group effort as we worked closely with Emmett building company and Matthews Architect, D’Angelo coffee and Louren at CFE to turn this small idea (it started with just Terracotta colour) into a reality.”
“We also have to mention our kitchen team. I am very lucky and blessed to be working with our young and talented Chefs for the menu. Chef Dean and Chef Allen and I are all from Taiwan, and both of them have extensive hospitality experience in numerous cities and restaurants, their passion and energy really translate into what they love doing – cooking and what they love to offer – more delicious food!” Emma continued
If you ask Joe, the vision that they had for the eatery has become a reality.
“We really just wanted a place that looked and felt like a warm hug. Just a place where people felt welcome and invited,” Joe said.
After the success of Moon Bear Dumpling Co. in the West, Joe has really fallen in love with the area.
“With this new eatery, it’s in such a great location with it being right next to the train line. We’ve already had such a great response from the locals who have come in and we just can’t wait to invite more people to enjoy our place,” Joe said.
With liquor licensing in the works, Bobibao will soon be serving up Bobi cocktails along with a local wine, beer and cider menu.
You can also look forward to having a cheeky cocktail at the lunch and dinner service that is also coming soon.
Opening hours are Wednesday-Sunday 7:30 am – 2:30 pm at this stage, with the team planning on trading on Monday and Tuesday soon.
Positioned on the corner of Park Terrace and Second street and along the Bowden Train Station, Bobibao is the perfect place to add to your ever-growing list of food spots to try.
