NEW JERSEY – In the rapidly evolving New Jersey culinary scene, there’s always chatter about the newest highly-anticipated eatery opening.
From cocktail bars to omakase sushi spots to Mediterranean falafel joints, dozens of new restaurants are expected to open locally in the next year as the state continues to recover from COVID-19 impacts and offer new cuisines to Garden State locals.
Here’s a look at new restaurants that recently opened, or are opening, in New Jersey:
Cousins Maine Lobster, Asbury Park
The national lobster chain Cousins Maine Lobster opened its Asbury Park brick and mortar location in May on the boardwalk, joining the brand’s existing food truck locations in Freehold and Trenton. Get ready to try a wide array of lobster rolls, lobster bisque and everything in between. See more.
Tiger Sugar, Edison
Taiwan-based Tiger Sugar, a popular international bubble tea drink chain, is all set to open a store in Edison on May 28. According to the company, the chain uses a “proprietary cooking method,” taking up to eight hours to achieve its famous amber syrups and chewy boba with handmade tapioca pearls. Jugemu opened at the former site of Umeya in Cresskill on May 22 to the delight of North Jersey sushi fans. Self-touted as “authentic Japanese sushi/cuisine,” Sushi Jugemu will feature omakase specials (letting a chef choose the order) among other specialty menu options like gyoza, veggie tacos and bandit’s chicken. Centrada Cocina & Cocktails, Red Bank
This pan-Latin cocktail bar opened April 30 and offers up three stories – two dining rooms, three bars and a private room for events in the heart of Red Bank. A brainchild of the Esperto Hospitality Group, the establishment promises to serve as a unique dining and nightlife experience in Central Jersey. See more.
Wattle Cafe, Jersey City
Australian-inspired health brand Wattle Cafe opened its third location this month in Jersey City, offering bites catered to keto diets, vegan lifestyles and everything in between. Touting a menu tailored to customer preferences, the new location pours coffee roaster by a New York-based Australian roaster, with beach sourced directly from the farmer who grows them. See more.
Pastosa Ravioli, Eatontown
Brooklyn-based Italian food store chain Pastosa Ravioli has opened its fifth New Jersey location, this time in Eatontown. Serving up ravioli, fresh pasta and Italian specialties, the new shop is the newest debut among its sister sites in Cranford, Florham Park, Manalapan and Manasquan. See more.
Taim Mediterranean Kitchen, Princeton
Fast-casual spot Taïm Mediterranean Kitchen is preparing to open its eighth location in Princeton. Already touting six New York and one Washington DC. location, the eatery is well known for its cauliflower shawarma, eggplant sabich, kebabs and more. Their menu also includes made-to-order stuffed pitas, bowls, mezze, fires and an array of house-made fries. The New Jersey location is anticipated to open June 2. Read more.
