The USC Taiwan Chinese Summer Study Abroad Program provides students with the unique opportunity to experience the vibrant city of Kaohsiung while attending a four-week Chinese language program at one of the top ranked academic institutions, National Sun Yat-sen University, in Taiwan.
Kaohsiung, the largest industrial center in Taiwan, is situated on the southwestern coastal plains of the island and enjoys a warm climate year-round. Kaohsiung is home to several popular visitor sites, and it also offers scenic mountains, ocean views, and rivers, as well as port, cultural, and historic attractions. You can experience the beauty of nature and savor fine cuisine in this wonderful city.
National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) is one of the top universities in Taiwan and is recognized in several distinguished rankings internationally. NSYSU is also known for its beautiful campus with a beach and ocean view from the classrooms and dorms, which makes it one of the most beautiful campuses in Taiwan. Its Chinese Language and Culture Program offers a blend of studies and cultural experiences.
Participants in the program will be able to take language courses which include local elements and experiences. The program will offer unique courses for students who have family ties and interest in furthering their understanding of the cultural heritage of Taiwan. The smaller class sizes in this immersion program provide greater personal attention and enable students to improve their Mandarin ability.
In addition to regular classroom activities, each week the program will have one or two cultural courses and excursions that allow students to experience the exciting Taiwanese culture and the Kaohsiung City. The cultural activities include tours to historic sites, night markets, Chinese tea ceremony, and etc. There will also be longer field trips to other parts of the island. Excursion fees are included in the program tuition.
Students will be housed in the dormitory, a modern student/faculty residential complex, which includes spectacular ocean view, Wi-Fi, and laundry. Both on campus and through various field trips, students will have myriad opportunities to interact with the local community and other international students who come to NSYSU to study Chinese.
Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity to learn Chinese and explore Kaohsiung.
